tapi disini penulis akan membahasnya menggunakan visual basic sebagai media pengirimnya. huh nyantai aja bro, kita akan coba ngirim pesan tapi tanpa mengirimkan identitas pengirimnya (emang bisa?). Dulu sih nggak bisa, tapi sekarang bisa dengan menggunakan beberapa fungsi APi yang tersedia kita dapat melakukanya.

Ok gua rasa udah cukup, untuk kata-kata pembukanya. Bagi para newbies yg belum paham tentang fungsi-fungsi APi sebaiknya belajar dari sekarang.Fungsi yang kita gunakan ialah:

GetVersionExA : Fungsi ini terdapat pada file kernel32.dll yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan versi window yang digunakan.
GetComputerNameA : Fungsi ini terdapat pada file kernel32.dll yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan nama komputer.
NetMessageBufferSend : Fungsi ini terdapat pada file netapi32.dll yang digunakan untuk Mengirimkan pesan

Bagi para netter, trilyunan data yang ada di dunia maya tersebut memberikan kontribusi yang amat besar. Berkirim-kiriman SMS dengan pacar memang asyik. Tak heran, seharian orang bisa berkirim ratusan SMS, panjang-panjang isinya. Kenapa tidak langsung bicara saja? Inilah keunikan SMS. Anda bisa berpikir panjang dulu sebelum mengeluarkan emosi, yang mungkin tidak akan bisa keluar saat bicara langsung. Pacar sedang ngambek? SMS saja, jangan ditelepon karena malah makin ngambek. Nah, ternyata Microsoft sudah menyediakan secara gratis aplikasi pengirim SMS yang sederhana, ringan tapi menarik. Yang Anda perlukan adalah koneksi ponsel ke PC, baik lewat Bluetooth atau inframerah. Setelah terkoneksi, aktifkan Microsoft SMS Sender, ketikkan nomor tujuan atau import dari phonebook ponsel, dan Send.

Microsoft SMS Sender ini hanya bisa mengirim SMS dari PC ke ponsel, dan tidak bisa mengambil (retrieve) SMS dari ponsel ke PC. MMS dan Flash SMS (animasi) juga tidak didukung, jadi hanya SMS teks standar (maksimum 160 karakter) yang bisa dikirimkan.Asalkan hurufnya tersedia di WindowsXP Anda, SMS dengan huruf Cina bisa juga dikirimkan.Microsoft SMS Sender 1.0 bisa didownload gratis di http://www.soft32.com/download-Microsoft_SMS_Sender-9694-5.html. Bisa pula di situs resmi Microsoft, tapi WindowsXP Anda akan dicek apakah asli atau tidak.

Lakukan instalasi Microsoft SMS Sender.
Lakukan pairing Bluetooth adapter di PC dengan Bluetooth ponsel. Pilih Quick Connect, lalu Dial-up Networking, dan cari Bluetooth ponsel dengan Find Devices.
Setelah ketemu, klik Connect.
Maka akan muncul pesan Connecting. Tunggu beberapa saat sampai terkoneksi.
Maka akan muncul menu Connect Bluetooth Connection. Tutup saja menu tersebut dengan klik tanda silang di kanan atas. Menu tersebut berfungsi untuk melakukan dial-up Internet ke ISP dengan menggunakan modem di ponsel.
Di aplikasi SMS Sender, Anda bisa menambahkan daftar kontak secara manual (Add contact) dengan memilih Phone Book.
Klik Options di aplikasi SMS Sender, dan arahkan Character Encoding ke International characters (UCS-2), lalu tekan OK.
Maka semua daftar nama dan nomor teleponnya, akan langsung terlihat di Phone Book.Pilih nama yang ingin Anda kirim SMS.
Perhatikan bahwa pada bagian Available Devices berisi Bluetooth Modem, sedangkan Destination Number bisa diisi manual atau diambil dari Phone Book sebelumnya. Isi SMS bias diketikkan di kotak Body of the message dengan sisa karakter yang diijinkan di kotak kanan bawah.
Klik Send, dan tunggu beberapa saat hingga muncul pesan Your message was sent succesfully.
Jika dilihat di ponsel tujuan, maka isi SMS persis seperti SMS yang dikirim via ponsel.

Memang sih, saat-saat seperti awal tahun dipercaya banyak orang mampu meningkatkan motivasi untuk memulai sesuatu yang baru.Namun sering kali niat mulia tersebut terkikis saking banyaknya hal yang ingin diubah sekaligus. Ingin mengubah kebiasaan marah-marah, malas, bangun siang, dan masih banyak lagi. Kalau ini dibiarkan, bisa-bisa tahun ini akan sama dengan tahun-tahun sebelumnya. Jadi daripada mubazir, simak kiat-kiat berikut supaya niat baik Anda bisa kesampaian.

1. Tidak perlu mencoba semuanya dengan sekaligus

Setiap pergantian tahun selalu saja ada godaan untuk mengubah nyaris semua hal, tapi jangan terpancing! 1. MENYALAHKAN ORANG LAIN

Itu penyakit P dan K, yaitu Primitif dan Kekanak-kanakan. Menyalahkan orang lain adalah pola pikir 0rang primitif. Di pedalaman Afrika, kalau ada orang yang sakit, yang Dipikirkan adalah : Siapa nih yang nyantet ? Selalu "siapa" Bukan "apa" penyebabnya. Bidang kedokteran modern selalu mencari tahu "apa" sebabnya, bukan "siapa". Jadi kalau kita berpikir menyalahkan orang lain, itu sama dengan sikap primitif. Pakai koteka aja deh, nggak usah pakai dasi dan jas.Kekanak-kanakan. Kenapa ? Anak-anak selalu nggak pernah mau disalahkan. Kalau ada piring yang jatuh," Adik tuh yang salah", atau " mbak tuh yang salah". Anda pakai celana monyet aja kalau bersikap begitu. Kalau kita manusia yang berakal dan dewasa selalu akan mencari sebab terjadinya sesuatu.

2. MENYALAHKAN DIRI SENDIRI
Menyalahkan diri sendiri bahwa dirinya merasa tidak mampu. Anda pernah mengalaminya ? Kalau anda bilang tidak pernah, berarti anda bohong. "Ah, dia sih bisa, dia ahli, dia punya jabatan, dia berbakat dsb, Lha saya ini apa ?, wah saya nggak bisa deh. Dia S3, lha saya SMP, wah nggak bisa deh. Dia punya waktu banyak, saya sibuk, pasti nggak bisa deh". Penyakit ini seperti kanker, tambah besar,besar di dalam mental diri sehingga bisa mencapai "improper guilty feeling".Jadi walau yang salah partner, anak buah, atau bahkan atasan, berani bilang "Saya kok yang memang salah, tidak mampu dsb". Penyakit ini pelan-pelan bisa membunuh kita. Merasa inferior, kita tidak punya kemampuan. Kita sering membandingkan keberhasilan orang lain dengan kekurangan kita, sehingga keberhasilan orang lain dianggap Wajar karena mereka punya sesuatu lebih yang kita tidak punya.

3. TIDAK PUNYA GOAL / CITA-CITA
Kita sering terpaku dengan kesibukan kerja, tetapi arahnya tidak jelas. Sebaiknya kita selalu mempunyai target kerja dengan milestone. Buat target jangka panjang dan jangka pendek secara tertulis.Ilustrasinya kayak gini : Ada anjing jago lari yang sombong.Apa sih yang nggak bisa saya kejar, kuda aja kalah sama saya. Kemudian ada kelinci lompat-lompat,kiclik,kiclik,kiclik. Temannya bilang: "Nah tuh ada kelinci, kejar aja".Dia kejar itu kelinci, wesss...., kelinci lari lebih kencang,anjingnya ngotot ngejar dan kelinci lari sipat-kuping (sampai nggak dengar / peduli apa-apa), dan akhirnya nggak terkejar, kelinci masuk pagar. Anjing kembali lagi ke temannya dan diketawain. "Ah lu, katanya jago lari, sama kelinci aja nggak bisa kejar. Katanya lu paling kencang"."Lha dia goalnya untuk tetap hidup sih, survive, lha gua goalnya untuk fun aja sih". Kalau "GOAL" kita hanya untuk "FUN", isi waktu aja, ya hasilnya cuma terengah-engah saja.

4. MEMPUNYAI "GOAL", TAPI NGAWUR MENCAPAINYA
Biasanya dialami oleh orang yang tidak "teachable".Goalnya salah, fokus kita juga salah, jalannya juga salah,arahnya juga salah. Ilustrasinya kayak gini : ada pemuda yang terobsesi dengan emas, karena pengaruh tradisi yang mendewakan emas. Pemuda ini pergi ke pertokoan dan mengisi karungnya dengan emas dan seenaknya ngeloyor pergi. Tentu saja ditangkap polisi dan ditanya. Jawabnya : Pokoknya saya mau emas, saya nggak mau lihat kiri-kanan.

5. MENGAMBIL JALAN PINTAS, SHORT CUT
Keberhasilan tidak pernah dilalui dengan jalan pintas. Jalan pintas tidak membawa orang ke kesuksesan yang sebenarnya, real success, karena tidak mengikuti proses.Kalau kita menghindari proses, ya nggak matang, kalaupun matang ya dikarbit. Jadi, tidak ada tuh jalan pintas.Pemain bulutangkis Indonesia bangun jam 5 pagi, lari keliling Senayan, melakukan smesh 1000 kali. Itu bukan jalan pintas. Nggak ada orang yang leha-leha tiap hari pakai sarung, terus tiba- tiba jadi juara bulu tangkis.Nggak ada ! Kalau anda disuruh taruh uang 1 juta, dalam 3 minggu jadi 3 juta, masuk akal nggak tuh ? Nggak mungkin !. Karena hal itu melawan kodrat.

6. MENGAMBIL JALAN TERLALU PANJANG, TERLALU SANTAI
Analoginya begini : Pesawat terbang untuk bisa take-off,harus mempunyai kecepatan minimum. Pesawat Boeing 737, untuk dapat take- off, memerlukan kecepatan minimum 300 km/jam. Kalau kecepatan dia cuma 50 km/jam, ya cuma ngabis-ngabisin avtur aja, muter-muter aja. Lha kalau jalannya, runwaynya lurus anda cuma pakai kecepatan 50 km/jam, ya nggak bisa take-off, malah
nyungsep iya. Iya kan ?

7. MENGABAIKAN HAL-HAL YANG KECIL
Dia maunya yang besar-besar, yang heboh, tapi yang kecilkecil nggak dikerjain. Dia lupa bahwa struktur bangunan yang besar, pasti ada komponen yang kecilnya. Maunya yang hebat aja. Mengabaikan hal kecil aja nggak boleh,apalagi mengabaikan orang kecil.

8. TERLALU CEPAT MENYERAH
Jangan berhenti kerja pada masa percobaan 3 bulan. Bukan mengawali dengan yang salah yang bikin orang gagal, tetapi berhenti pada tempat yang salah. Mengawali dengan salah bisa diperbaiki, tetapi berhenti di tempat yang
salah repot sekali.

9. BAYANG BAYANG MASA LALU
Wah puitis sekali, saya suka sekali dengan yang ini. Karena apa ? Kita selalu penuh memori kan ? Apa yang kita lakukan, masuk memori kita, minimal sebagai pertimbangan kita untuk langkah kita berikutnya. Apalagi kalau kita pernah gagal, nggak berani untuk mencoba lagi.Ini bisa balik lagi ke penyakit nomer-3.Kegagalan sebagai akibat bayang-bayang masa lalu yang tidak Terselesaikan dengan semestinya. Itu bayang-bayang negatif. Memori kita kadang- kadang sangat membatasi kita untuk maju ke depan. Kita kadang-kadang lupa bahwa hidup itu maju terus. "Waktu" itu maju kan ?. Ada nggak yang punya jam yang jalannya terbalik ?? Nggak ada kan ? Semuanya maju, hidup itu maju. Lari aja ke depan, kalaupun harus jatuh, pasti ke depan kok. Orang yang berhasil, pasti pernah gagal. Itu memori negatif yang
menghalangi kesuksesan.

10. MENGHIPNOTIS DIRI DENGAN KESUKSESAN SEMU
Biasa disebut Pseudo Success Syndrome. Kita dihipnotis dengan itu. Kita kalau pernah berhasil dengan sukses kecil, terus berhenti, nggak kemana-mana lagi.Sudah puas dengan sukses kecil tersebut. Napoleon pernah menyatakan: "Saat yang paling berbahaya datang bersama dengan kemenangan yang besar". Itu saat yang paling berbahaya, karena orang lengah, mabuk kemenangan. Jangan terjebak dengan goal-goal hasil yang kecil, karena kita akan menembak sasaran yang besar, goal yang jauh. Jangan berpuas diri, ntar jadi sombong, terus takabur.

Indians pose with the west-bound Streamliner at Celilo Falls, Oregon, in April 1940. On the left is Henry Thompson, son of chief Tommy Thompson. The train engineer is Tom Rumgay (died 1942). The Indians on the right are from Celilo Indian village, which was located just to the right of and behind the camera's view. The falls and original village were permanently submerged in 1957 by the backwater from a dam built on the Columbia River, downstream eleven miles at The Dalles. Celilo is believed to have been continuously inhabited for 11,000 years, which is longer than any other village in the region.This Streamliner was the "City of Portland", engine #M10002, an articulated streamliner introduced in 1935 and replaced in 1939 by a train streamliner. At the time this was photographed in April 1940, only one Streamliner worked the Portland to Chicago route at any given time, and the original Streamliner was brought out of retirement for this photo shoot. The engineer's window has been removed for photographing.The photographer of this image was Everett Olmstead. He owned the Elite Studio, which was the main photo studio in The Dalles, Oregon. He took at least eight photographs at this event, which was a staged photography setup for Southern Pacific advertising. The first known publication was a vertical shiloutette which appeared in the Oregon Journal (Portland) on 12 May 1940. (I do not have a negative or print of the shilouette image, however vintage prints are in Southern Pacific archives and have been reprinted numerous times.) Seven negatives are here and available for printing, including the above image. The film format is 5x7" black & white Kodak safety film. While in Celilo photographing this, Olmstead likely shot several other photos of the general store in Celilo Indian Village (this connection is based upon examination of film emulsion numbers and notch codes.

We were quite enraptured with Union Pacific's classic steam locomotive 844 when it came through Kansas in April. We weren't the only ones. See that line of traffic to the right in the picture below? Those are "railfans", hobbyists who devote themselves to the pursuit of railroads, and they are driving alongside the train, jockeying with each other to parallel the locomotive in order to take pictures, video or simply experience the locomotive in...well, locomotion.

For a few minutes, something neat was happening...well, neat if you're a railfan: there were two Alco locomotives in Abilene; they were just a year apart in production but products of different technologies. Aside from 844 as it shot through, a 1945 Alco diesel S-1 switcher lives here on the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad Association, a tourist line that offers dinner trains. I don't have a current picture of it, but here it is in the early 1990s when it belonged to its former owner, the Hutchinson and Northern Railway in Hutchinson, KS.

The trainwreck industry

In 1895, this happened:

A train crashed through the buffers at Montparnasse Station, Paris, then smashed through the wall and fell out onto the street. A woman below was killed. The cause seems to have been an excess of paperwork.I wouldn’t have thought a French train crash such an unusual thing, but in 2004, I saw this:

It’s a real-life replica of the crash! The number (721) and layout of the engine seem more or less accurate. Not only has the train been reproduced, but the building itself seems to be styled on the Montparnasse Station. This was a strip mall somewhere near Goiânia, Brazil. It’s not really such an oddity as far as the talking-points of anonymous strip malls go, so I didn’t think any more of it until I saw this:

Again, it’s train 721, and again it’s fallen out of a building fashioned after Gare Montparnasse.It turns out these things are the frontispieces for a chain of museums known as Mundo a Vapor (”Steam World”). I must’ve seen the one in Caldas Novas.

I wonder if there has arisen an industry based on producing full-size novelty crash scene replicas. If so, I’d like to know who else has bought one, and encourage any prospective purchasers to buy theirs ASAP.

Israel Train Crash Kills 8, Wounds 200

Tel Aviv----June 22......As Israel was enjoying the heat of a quiet summer's day, only two things on were on people's minds. The upcoming disengagement from Gaza and air-conditioning. Then the news appeared, first on radio, then the Internet and then on TV as we heard that a train had plowed into a truck loaded with chickens. Israel is a country which has been traumatized by Islamic terror attacks, so another car or train accident would not really stop us in our stride. But as the minutes grew and with everyone carrying mobile phones, Israel quickly realized that it had just been struck by a major train disaster.

Eight people were killed and over 200 injured when a passenger train from Haifa hurtled at full speed into a coal truck in Israel. Dozens of passengers were thrown from somersaulting passenger cars in the accident. Five people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others died later at hospitals. A total of 215 people were injured, several of them critically - including a baby and a 19-year-old female soldier. Officials repeated several times that today's tragedy was an accident, not a terror attack. The massive truck the train hit weighed about 40 tons. Army Radio said the driver had been working for 30 hours straight.Police said that the trucking company, Eliahu Brothers, had been under criminal investigation in the past for having its drivers work 30 to 40 consecutive hours – way over the 12-hour maximum time permitted by law.The Israel passenger train, carrying 300 to 400 people from Tel Aviv to the southern Negev desert city of Beersheba, was traveling as fast as 80 mph when it hit the coal delivery truck at about 6 p.m.

French woman injured in east China train crash may need surgery

ZHOUCUN, Shandong Province, April 29 (Xinhua) -- A French woman who suffered a broken thigh in Monday's train crash in east China could undergo an operation this week, doctors with a local hospital confirmed.The hospital in Zichuan District of Zibo City, Shandong Province, is waiting for a team of specialists from Beijing to hold a joint consultation on Robin Naurence later on Tuesday.The 42-year-old was one of four French nationals injured in the deadliest China train crash in a decade. She suffered a fracture to her right thigh and may need an operation in a few days."We have used traction and other therapy to ease her pain. She's in stable condition," said Sun Lanfang, the hospital vice president. "We're coordinating with the foreign affairs authorities to see whether the operation should be carried out in Zibo or elsewhere."Naurence was traveling with her boyfriend, 54-year-old Pascal Boisson, and his son and daughter to Qingdao.Boisson was hospitalized in Zibo Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital with his 22-year-old daughter Joanne. His son, Pierre Emmanuel, 14, was at Zibo No. 1 Hospital

Nuclear waste trains were using killer crash railway line

The track where a 100mph express train derailed is also used for transporting radioactive nuclear waste, it was revealed today. The news raises the horrifying scenario of carriages packed with toxic waste plunging down the same embankment as the Virgin Trains Pendolino service from Euston, which crashed off the track on Friday — killing 84-year-old passenger Margaret Masson and injuring several dozen more.

The nuclear waste is carried on a regular basis by freight company Direct Rail Services (DRS).

The company confirmed that nuclear waste is carried along the same line, at Grayrigg in Cumbria, but refused to say how often.

TWO commuter trains have collided in a Nile Delta town north of Cairo, killing up to 80 people and injuring twice that number.Police said the two trains were heading south towards Cairo yesterday, when one failed to obey a stop signal outside Qalyoub train station, about 20 kilometres north of Cairo, and rammed into the rear of the train in front.

FRENCH officials have blamed railway signallers in Luxembourg for causing a train collision that has killed 5 people in northeastern France.

The crash yesterday between a double-decker passenger train travelling from Luxembourg and a French freight train happened near the village of Zoufftgen, in the department of Moselle, just before midday. The head-on collision occurred on a stretch of track undergoing maintenance work. Bertrand Mertz, vice-president of the Lorraine regional council, blamed the collision, which also injured about 20 people, on signal workers from the neighbouring country. He said on France 3 television that it was a "line-control mistake by people in Luxembourg".The cause of the accident is still unclear, but rail officials from the state-owned SNCF rail company said that part of the track was closed because of maintenance work and trains were meant to wait their turn before travelling on the open line. Guillaume Pepy, SNCF executive director, said the freight train was the first onto the section of track, and that its driver had not broken a red light. Both train drivers, one from France and the other from Luxembourg, and ten people on board the passenger train were killed in the collision. More than 100 rescue workers headed to the crash site to free passengers trapped inside the wreckage. Several cars of the freight train lie were crushed and others were bent skyward or tipped over on their sides with the force of the impact.

Branson praises rescue effort in UK train crash

Sir Richard Branson praised emergency workers who battled difficult conditions to rescue around 100 passengers trapped in a derailed Virgin train in England.The Virgin Pendolino tilting train, heading from London to Glasgow, derailed at 150 kilometres per hour on Friday evening (local time) in a remote area of Cumbria, scattering carriages down the side of a steep embankment.Investigators and the train company boss say an elderly woman was killed, with a total of 22 others hurt.Police have named the dead woman as 84-year-old Margaret Masson from Glasgow.Five people remain in hospital with back, leg and head injuries.Rescuers worked in torrential rain to reach scores of passengers, some of whom were trapped in the overturned carriages.A defective track may have caused the crash, with rail accident investigator Thomas Edwards saying the inquiry will concentrate on a set of points.

Virgin Group chairman, Sir Richard Branson, says he has been told the line was to blame for the crash. "I've been told the line was defective. I've been told that it was the points that failed," he said.Sir Richard, who broke off a family skiing holiday in Switzerland to return to Britain to visit the crash site and the injured, says rail travel remains the safest form of transport."If it turns out to be a Network Rail track issue then they simply have to learn from this and to make sure that it never happens again," he said.Sir Richard says the accident could have been much worse if a different train was involved."The train itself was magnificent," he said."It's built like a tank and I think if it'd been any of the old trains the injuries and the mortalities would have been horrendous.

InterCityExpress crash in Jerman

Kecelakaan kereta api InterCityExpress yang menabrak jembatan di Kota Eschede pada 1988 dan menyebabkan 101 orang meninggal. Awalnya ivestigasi dilakukan pada kereta yang paling parah kerusakannya, bahkan sempat dicurigai adanya kecelakaan kendaraan yang melintasi jembatan diatas jalur rel kereta. Namun penyelidikan selanjutnya menunjukkan bahwa kecelakaan kereta api super cepat ICE di Jerman ini didahului sebelumnya dengan mencuatnya sebuah batangan logam yang menembus lantai dasar gerbong kereta api. Mencuatnya bagian dari roda ini terjadi sembilan kilometer sebelum kejadian keluarnya rentetan gerbong ini dari rel.

Ketika gerbong keluar rel dan masih dengan kecepatan 200 Km/jam menabrak jembatan yang akhirnya runtuh. Dan runtuhnya jembatan ini menimpa gerbong yang lain. Mengapa kejadian beruntun menjadi bertumpuk-tumpuk menjadi sebuah bencana besar menewaskan lebih dari seratus orang ? What went wrong ?

Northern Pacific 4-8-4 No. 2662 storms up the 1.8 percent grade at Muir, Mont., in 1947.

Few people know the railroads of Montana like Warren McGee, who has been photographing them since 1930. McGee's favorite subject is the Northern Pacific, the railroad that also employed him for 35 years as a brakeman and conductor, based in the NP shop town of Livingston, Mont. McGee was drafted in the Army during World War II, assigned to photo reconnaissance. Back in Montana, he resumed his railroad career, but also landed free-lance photography assignments for Northern Pacific and Great Northern, creating photos used in advertising. NP even paid for a camera McGee could use while taking other company photographs. "I like a train, a steam engine that is well painted and well maintained. It's a picture of power to me," McGee tells Classic Trains magazine in its Fall 2003 issue. When not working, McGee scoured the mountains, canyons, and river bottoms of Montana, capturing images of the Northern Pacific, Great Northern, and Milwaukee Road during the mid-twentieth century. McGee has donated his vast collection of photographs to the Montana Historical Society.

Bruce Meyer has been on a search for steam since he started taking railroad photographs in the early 1950s. Meyer made a dramatic record of steam's final years in the Midwest and eastern U.S., and recalls countless visits to the Illinois Central, Pennsylvania Railroad, Norfolk & Western, Baltimore & Ohio, Nickel Plate, Canadian National, and Canadian Pacific. As the fires of main-line steam locomotives were dropped, Meyer turned his attention to U.S. fan trips and steam operations overseas in locales such as China, Eastern Europe, and India. Equally dramatic are Meyer's close-up views of locomotives. He made about half his photos for modeling purposes and the other half for his own enjoyment. "We just started taking pictures from any angle, doing what we thought was interesting and what might be required to build better models," Meyer told Classic Trains magazine in its Spring 2003 issue. "I take a lot of detail pictures because railroad erection drawings do not show all the details." An electrical engineer who enjoyed a 40-year career at GM's Electro-Motive Division, Meyer doesn't see anything incongruous about working a new diesel-electrical units but taking photographs of steam.

By day and by night, in color and black-and-white, and on railroads big and small, Jim Shaughnessy has produced a vivid record of the railroad and its environment. Though perhaps best known for early night photography, shots of people in roundhouses and shops, and books on the Delaware & Hudson and Rutland railroads, Shaughnessy remains an active railroad photographer today. He began taking photographs in the late 1940s, capturing the end of steam in the northeast U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and continued photographing the first and second-generation diesels that followed in New England and throughout the U.S. A civil engineer by trade, Shaughnessy has helped people with dozens of books, starting with Lucius Beebe, setting the pace for the field as we know it today. He was honored for his work by the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society, which in 1987 presented him with its lifetime achievement award in photography. "I like pictures with people in them or something, not contrived, that capture a moment in time," Shaughnessy tells Classic Trains magazine in its Fall 2001 issue. "There is more to it than just the locomotive. The station scenes, the countryside, umpteen million possibilities.

Stan Kistler is a well-known professional photographer and photofinisher in Grass Valley, Calif. Kistler began photographing trains in the early 1940s when he was growing up in Pasadena, documenting the Southern California railroad scene with roll-film and Speed Graphic cameras, supported only by public transportation and the limited income of a teenager. Kistler's passion became a profession, and he later spent 13 years at Caltech before joining the Grass Valley Group and establishing his own photo business. His book Santa Fe Steel Rails through California was published in 1963. Kistler received the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society's award for photography in 1996. "It was an exciting period to be trackside," Kistler wrote in the Spring 2000 issue of Classic Trains magazine, commenting on the photographs he made in the 1940s and '50s. "I was privileged to be a railfan and a spectator to this era of Southern California rail history.

Richard H. Kindig is best known for his magnificent views of steam locomotives laboring in the mountain passes of the West in the 1930s and 1940s. With his trademark postcard Graflex camera, Kindig photographed the main-line Rocky Mountain action of the Union Pacific, Denver & Rio Grande Western, and Santa Fe, as well as vanishing narrow-gauge pikes such as the Rio Grande Southern and Colorado & Southern. Kindig received the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society's award for photography in 1984, and has the distinction of having a photo published in the first issue of TRAINS magazine, November 1940. Tidak perlu diceritakan lagi, fasilitas transportasi di Jakarta memang memalukan. Baru setelah adanya Busway masyarakat Jakarta bisa sedikit berbangga. Namun hanya Sedikit.

Coba Anda perhatikan setiap kali kereta api melintasi jalan ibukota pada jam-jam sibuk. Anda sudah pasti akan melihat pemandangan yang luar biasa. Ratusan orang melakukan aksi nekat dengan duduk di atas gerbong-gerbong kereta api yang sudah begitu kuno dan ketinggalan jaman. Orang asing yang sedang berkunjung ke Jakarta mungkin akan berdecak kagum melihat pemandangan itu, “Wow. They’re so brave!” Well I don’t think it’s because they’re brave madam, but they are kepaksa.

Pada tanggal 29 Maret 2007 Detik.com memberitakan bahwa setiap hari jalur kereta api di Jabotabek dinaiki oleh 19 ribu penumpang gelap alias penumpang yang gak mau bayar. Luar biasa, 19 ribu orang tidak membayar fasilitas publik tersebut. Bayangkan berapa kerugian yang harus dialami oleh PT KA setiap harinya.

Apakah segitu susahnya mengatur orang Jakarta sampai-sampai PT KA harus mengalami kerugian yang begitu besar setiap harinya? Atau justru bukan penumpang gelap yang seharusnya disalahkan tapi PT KA? Mulai dari kondisi kereta api yang jauh dari kelayakan (tidak manusiawi bung!), jumlah petugas kereta yang tidak cukup serta tidak profesional, jumlah gerbong yang tidak memadai, hingga jadwal keberangkatan yang tidak pernah tepat waktu.Apa pun cerita dan alasannya, yang jelas kondisi transportasi kereta api di daerah Jabotabek bukan sesuatu yang dapat dibanggakan oleh masyarakat Jakarta. Pengelola PT KA dan masyarakat Jakarta sama-sama salah. Memang benar mayorits penumpang kereta api di wilayah Jabotabek adalah masyarakat menengah kebawah yang dihimpit oleh begitu banyak masalah ekonomi, namun apakah itu dapat dijadikan sebagai alasan untuk tidak terciptanya budaya tertib?Masyakarat Jakarta memang butuh Revolusi Budaya. When I arrived in Mumbai, I casually strolled over to the ATM with the intent of sliding my bank card in, pressing a few buttons, and yes, immediate cashification. No such luck. I kept get error messages (in Hindi) until I finally gave up and changed some cash at the exchange counter. I figured that maybe this ATM wasn’t international, or maybe I was pressing the wrong buttons, or maybe it just wasn’t my day…but I didn’t let it bother me. But it did start to bother me when I tried another ATM…with no luck…and another ATM…with no luck…and then another ad nauseum and infinitum. None worked. Usually this wouldn’t be such a big deal, but when you’re stuck in a foreign country with no cash it’s not very fun. So finally I called the bank and had my card fixed, and the kind lady even informed me that the Patriots had won on Sunday…whoohoo!!!

So enough about that. I’ve got money now. Time to discuss the train system. It’s quite nice, actually…you can read all about it at this

site. There are different types of classes that you can ride on…but.

They’re actually quite nice if you pay a little extra. Tomorrow I’ll be taking a night train north to see some more caves. Apparently it’s an UNESCO World Heritage site that shouldn’t be missed. I’ll see if that’s true or not in two days.

Last of all: jet lag. It’s been creeping up on me the past few days. I’ve been going to bed early and waking up early, which most of you know is not normal for me. I think today has been the first day where I’m feeling more at ease with the time change. I’ll still go to bed by 10, but hopefully I’ll wake up closer to 8am and not 4am like I’ve been doing.

Other than that, not much new to tell you. I took a bunch of videos today, which I’m uploading for you now, but it takes a while to upload. As soon as they upload I’ll post them to the site.
